“ We went here on a whim after hiking a short trail. I am so glad we did! Even on a foggy day this farm is beautiful, the cows seem really happy and both the Chocolate AND both kinds of the milk are so so good. The young lady at the store was super friendly and service was quick. We bought two of each truffle and so far they are all so delicious! We bought dark and milk chocolate. The peanut butter with salt on top!! Mmmmm so good and the cinnamon honey! Yumm I am sure I will love each one. Honestly the milk is really good, reminds me of the fresh milk from my grandma's cows in prospect, Virginia; so sweet, smooth and tasty! ”
“ What a enjoyable and tasty day trip from the CT Shoreline! Absolutely a treat to meet the ladies on the farm and took home a few boxes of chocolates. The setting is almost too pretty to imagine. ”
“ Quite pricy but they produce great chocolates. It's a very tiny sales room but they fill all orders in the back. You can visit the cows while you are there if you time it right! ”
“ One of our favorite spots to visit! Set on a picturesque farm in Goshen is family-run Thorncrest farm, home of the best chocolates. Kim is a true chocolatier, and passionate about quality a product. The cows here are happy, and open for visits on the weekend! The shop sells all sorts of delicious truffles, bars, milk, and other goodies. You can't go wrong with anything! Everyone is so friendly, and makes your visit feel special. A box of hand-picked, fresh made truffles are my go-to gifts now! Definitely worth a visit. ”
“ This is a beautiful and remarkable farm. We enjoyed watching the glorious dairy cows resting inside their pens as the sun started to set was a magical experience. The charming chocolate shop carries fresh milk and delectable chocolates and maple syrup. It is evident the quality and care that goes into making each piece of chocolate. I purchased a pound of the Napoleon chocolate bar which is made up of three glorious layers of dark, white, and milk chocolate. So delicious. I will absolutely be back sooner rather than later. ”
“ Chocolates are amazing and that is not saying enough! The flavors of the coconut, root beer, pineapple, raspberry and other flavors (still eating my way through the box) in the chocolates are a punch to the taste buds in the best way possible!! Amazing quality, silky smooth and creamy milk, dark and white chocolate. Nuts and fruits covered in chocolate. ”
“ A really fun experience for chocolate lovers! Very informative too for those wanting to learn a little more about the process. Meet the cows up close, and see the beautiful countryside barn that they call home. And my favorite part, stop into the cottage to pick up some chocolates to take home. I bought a box of 9 ($27) but you can choose different size boxes to sample the goods for yourself. Mine barely made it home. If you love Dark chocolate and peanut butter may I suggest the Tali Delight. I also found that the Daydream's Dark Choc. Sea Salt Caramels are very popular and I can tell you it's for good reason. It is worth the drive just for the beautiful scenery, but the sweet cows and the delicious chocolates make it more than worth the trip. ”
“ ORIGIN and CONCEPT: Clint Thorn, owner of Thorncrest Farm & Milk House Chocolates, was raised on one of the many commercial dairy farms that once blanketed Goshen. When taking on a dairy farm of his own, Clint and his wife Kimberly chose to implement a pre-industrial approach -- one oriented towards producing high quality, rather than high volume, milk. To accomplish this, the comfort and nourishment of the farm's dairy cows are paramount. LOCATION: Thorncrest Farm & Milk House Chocolates is located in the Litchfield Hills, in the rural town of Goshen. EXPERIENCE: As part of Goshen's annual open farm weekend, dairy owner Kimberly Thorn outlined the lengthy process of chocolate making in the hayloft. The characteristics of milk produced by individual cows at the farm invokes thoughtful consideration when preparing the farm's award-winning confections. I left the talk with not only a tasty square of milk chocolate, but with newfound appreciation for the farm's commitment to producing high quality dairy products. An added plus was the opportunity to spend an hour sitting in the hayloft, surrounded by the sweet scent of dried grass. TIPS: There is a tiny building next to the dairy barn at Thorncrest Farm & Milk House Chocolates. This is where customers can select or pick up chocolate and caramel products every day after 10 AM. Some unique flavors include "Madras Curry", in which chocolate ganache is flavored with spices, and enveloped in dark chocolate; "Dairyman's Delight" -- a tropical mix of rum, pineapple, and coconut-flavored ganache encased in a dome of white chocolate; and "Lavender Dark Chocolate" -- lavender-infused ganache robed in dark chocolate. While these flavors are tempting, the farm offers a surprisingly large number of chocolate and caramel products, so it's best to check out the farm's website to get a full sense of what is available (https://milkhousechocolates.net). In exploring Thorncrest's website, I found that owners Clint and Kim Thorne welcome rental of the hayloft for events, like bridal showers and weddings. Just imagine sharing this treat with friends and family, with the farm's chocolates and caramels integrated as dessert, table markers, or momentos! ”
“ Attention Chocolate Lovers!! You have never tasted Chocolate like this!! They treat their cows like people & use their milk to produce the most delicious chocolate. They even grow their own sweet hay to feed these beautiful cows. I bought several boxes for my family for Christmas & everyone agrees there is no better chocolates. Check out their website & order from them directly. They make different flavors according to the seasons. I just finished the Root Beer milk chocolate & yesterday I had the Apple spice. There aren't any preservatives in them so I have to finish them by the end of the week OH MY! I guess I'll just have to do what I have to do! ”
“ "Come on woman, gonna treat you right Give you candy kisses every single night I got a sweet, sweet tooth for you" (Roy Orbison) There's a few things you should know about Thorncrest Chocolates. Their retail store is about as small a retail store as I have ever seen. The number of customers inside is regulated. There were 5 inside yesterday (including our two) and you could barely walk around to look at the selections. They are expensive- go on their website and see what I mean. They produce over 168 different kinds of chocolate on a rotating basis. They publish a weekly menu, so their chocolates vary every week depending on seasonal availability of fresh herbs, fruits, pumpkins, proximity to a special Holiday flavors, or even which of their cow's milk is used, because their cows' milk has different flavor profiles. For example, their cow named Daydream produces a naturally sweet milk that's perfect for caramels. The milk from a cow named "Supreme" is very buttery and works great with dark and white chocolate. Their motto is "the magic is in the milk". Their cow barns are designed to maximize the "comfort and happiness" of their cows. The cows are lined up in their stalls so their heads and tails align with the magnetic field of the Earth. The barn is designed so a cross breeze ventilation relaxes the cows. Takeaway this -a relaxed stress-free cow yields better milk and superior tasting chocolate. We bought three of their chocolate products - a 3 ounce dark chocolate bar, a 1.5 ounce milk chocolate mini bar, and an 8 ounce box of Neopolitan bark. Everything totaled $35. I just tasted a square of the milk chocolate and I have to say it was fantastic. I don't know which cow was responsible for it, but I can't wait to try the rest of our purchase! ”
